Program Objectives:

  1. Participants will understand and be able to discuss the pathomechanism of the first ray and MTP joint.
  2. Participants will understand and be able to discuss the presentation and treatment options for associated 1st MTP pathologies including hallux valgus and arthritis.
  3. Participants will understand and be able to discuss the pro’s and con’s of varies fixation methods, joint replacement, joint fusion, joint sparring procedures, and interposition arthroplasty as it relates to 1st MTP pathology.

About the Faculty:

Christopher F. Hyer, DPM, MS, FACFAS Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Center, Columbus, OH
Dr. Hyer is a graduate of the Ohio State University Medical Center Podiatric Surgical Residency and completed a 2-year advanced foot and ankle surgery fellowship at the Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Center, Columbus. Dr. Hyer is currently chairman of Central Ohio Podiatric Surgery Grand Rounds. Dr. Hyer is also Co-Director of the Foot & Ankle Surgery Fellowship at The Orthopedic Foot & Ankle Center.

Roberto Brandao, DPM, FACFAS Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Center, Columbus, Ohio
Dr.Brandao is a graduate of University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Residency and completed a 1 year advanced foot and ankle surgery fellowship at the Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Center in Columbus, OH. He currently serves as research director and faculty surgeon at the Orthopedic Foot & Ankle Center Surgical Fellowship and practices in the greater Columbus area including Gahanna and Zanesville.
