Looking to make an impact? OHFAMA recently met with representatives from Special Olympics Ohio to explore opportunities for podiatric physicians and students to get involved with the Special Olympics Fit Feet and Special Olympics Healthy Athletes ® programs. These opportunities provide a meaningful way for volunteers to make a difference in the lives of athletes by offering screenings, identifying concerns, providing education on foot and ankle health, and making recommendations for community-based follow-up care.
Special Olympics Ohio is excited to grow their network of podiatric physicians across the state for future events. Whether you volunteer or take on a leadership role as a Clinical Director, you can use your expertise to support this inspiring mission.
Dr. Rachel Johnson, an OHFAMA member, shares her experience: “I have had the privilege of serving as a Fit Feet Clinical Director and volunteer with Special Olympics Ohio for several years, participating in both the Summer and Winter Games. Each year, I look forward to connecting with the athletes, their coaches, and families while providing foot and lower-extremity screenings. One of the most rewarding aspects of this experience is having the opportunity to address concerns, provide education and guidance, and help athletes better understand the importance of their foot health. The relationships and interactions I have had with the Special Olympics community make the Fit Feet screenings something I genuinely look forward to each year.”
